Jeremy Garelick, screenwriter of The Break-Up and former assistant to Joel Schumacher, has signed on for features at two different studios, reports Deadline.
20th Century Fox’s An Ex to Grind will adapt the Jane Heller novel with Cameron Diaz in the role of Melanie Banks, a financial planner who has just divorced a former football player (Benicio Del Toro). Banks makes it her mission to find him a new wife so she can avoid paying alimony, but finds the process more than she bargained for.
It is unclear from Deadline‘s story whether or not Garelik will direct An Ex to Grind or merely provide the screenplay. He will, however, take the directing reigns on Hassle Man, a Universal project described only by the tagline, “When you can’t hire a hit man, hired [sic?] a hassle man.”
