Although it only grossed slightly under $15 million at the box office, writer/director David Robert Mitchell‘s low-budget horror flick It Follows was both a critical darling and extremely profitable for its costs. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, his follow-up titled Under the Silver Lake is finally coming together and has snagged a real movie star in Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Social Network).
While details are being kept tightly under wraps for the time being, the film is described as a modern-day noir crime thriller set in Los Angeles. That sounds like a logical next step from a director who evolved from his tender coming-of-age debut The Myth of the American Sleepover to the chilling psychological terror of It Follows.
Mitchell will write and direct Under the Silver Lake, with Michael De Luca (Fifty Shades of Grey) producing under his Michael De Luca Productions banner, alongside Chris Bender, Jake Weiner and Adele Romanski.
Garfield will next be seen in Mel Gibson’s war movie Hacksaw Ridge and Martin Scorsese’s religious drama Silence.
