In early May, Columbia Pictures announced that Men in Black III (AKA “MIIIB”) will hit 3D and 2D theaters on May 25, 2012. That’s the date that Universal’s adaptation of the Hasbro game Battleship was going to open.
Now, Universal has decided to move the Peter Berg-directed film a week earlier on May 18, 2012. Also scheduled for that date is DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar 3, thought that film will be going after a different audience.
The summer of 2012 is shaping up to be one for the record books, with The Avengers, DisneyPixar’s Brave, Star Trek 2, the Spider-Man reboot, Ice Age: Continental Drift and Christopher Nolan’s third Batman also coming out.
In other release news today, Dimension Films has moved Piranha 3D a week earlier on August 20th, a date that now has six wide releases (see here). We’re guessing one or more will move.
