Summit Entertainment has acquired distribution rights to The Impossible, starring Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. Filming will start this August in Alicante, Spain, and move to Thailand in October.
The film, based on a true story during the 2004 tsunami in Thailand, will be directed by Juan Antonio Bayona from a script by Sergio G. Sanchez. Bayona and Sanchez previously teamed for The Orphanage. Belen Atienza, López Lavigne and Álvaro Augustin are producing.
Last week, Summit also picked up Watts-starrer Fair Game, the Doug Liman-directed Valerie Plame drama also starring Sean Penn.
