Director Josh Boone Delays The Stand Movie to Adapt Stephen King’s Revival

The Stand movie delayed, Director to adapt King’s Revival

Since directing the adaptation of The Fault in Our Stars, which brought in over $300 million at the global box office, Josh Boone has been a busy man. Not only has he penned the script for an X-Men spin-off in The New Mutants and a new adaptation of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, but Boone has also been working to adapt the gargantuan Stephen King novel The Stand into a feature film. Now, Deadline brings word that Boone is tabling The Stand adaptation for the time being so he can tackle another King book for the big screen, 2014’s Revival

Boone has already penned the adaptation and is working with producer Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Fifty Shades of Grey). The project has been submitted to Universal for consideration but could find another home should they pass.

The novel is officially described as follows:

“In a small New England town, over half a century ago, a shadow falls over a small boy playing with his toy soldiers. Jamie Morton looks up to see a striking man, the new minister. Charles Jacobs, along with his beautiful wife, will transform the local church. The men and boys are all a bit in love with Mrs. Jacobs; the women and girls feel the same about Reverend Jacobs—including Jamie’s mother and beloved sister, Claire. With Jamie, the Reverend shares a deeper bond based on a secret obsession. When tragedy strikes the Jacobs family, this charismatic preacher curses God, mocks all religious belief, and is banished from the shocked town.’

“Jamie has demons of his own. Wed to his guitar from the age of thirteen, he plays in bands across the country, living the nomadic lifestyle of bar-band rock and roll while fleeing from his family’s horrific loss. In his mid-thirties—addicted to heroin, stranded, desperate—Jamie meets Charles Jacobs again, with profound consequences for both men. Their bond becomes a pact beyond even the Devil’s devising, and Jamie discovers that revival has many meanings.”

Boone went on to say that he still intends to direct The Stand and revealed he has verbal commitments from actors for the film’s potential cast. The film rights have lapsed from Warner Bros. however, meaning the project has returned to CBS Films and could land at another studio in the future.
