Mandate Pictures announced today that the company has optioned the rights to Young Adult, an original screenplay from Academy Award winner Diablo Cody.
The comedy with a strong dramatic backbone will be produced by Diablo Cody, Academy Award nominated producers Mason Novick, and Lianne Halfon and Russell Smith of Mr. Mudd Productions.
Mandate president Nathan Kahane and Mr. Mudd’s John Malkovich will serve as executive producers. Mary Lee will oversee the project on behalf of Mandate Pictures. Mandate has the project on the fast track. The story details are being kept under wraps.
Kahane shared: “We are so excited to be entrusted with another Diablo Cody original. Working with producers like the Mudds and Mason makes our job very easy.”
Young Adult marks the second collaboration for this group. Mandate, Mr. Mudd, Novick and Cody had an enormously successful partnership on Juno.
Diablo Cody is currently developing the comedy-horror Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament with Fox Searchlight as well as writing the feature film Sweet Valley High, based on the popular book series of the same name, for Universal Pictures. Cody is the creator of the multi-award winning TV series “United States of Tara.” The second season of the series is now airing on Showtime.
