A new piece of Doctor Strange concept art teases Benedict Cumberbatch’s upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe debut
On the heels of a Captain America: Civil War featurette, Marvel Studios has today debuted a look at wholly different Marvel Cinematic Universe “Phase Three” release. In the player below, you can go behind the scenes of the upcoming Doctor Strange. While this featurette is packed with art from Marvel Comics, it ends with a new piece of Doctor Strange concept art, revealing a design for Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme. Check out a full still of the image in the gallery viewer at the bottom of this page!
Doctor Strange stars Cumberbatch in the lead with Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) as Baron Mordo, Tilda Swinton (Only Lovers Left Alive) as The Ancient One and, in undisclosed roles, Rachel McAdams (The Vow), Michael Stuhlbarg (Pawn Sacrifice) and Scott Adkins (The Bourne Ultimatum).
Scheduled to hit theaters November 4, 2016, Doctor Strange is scripted by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus, Passengers) and directed by Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Deliver Us From Evil). It is said to follow the story of neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.
Outside of the logo, this is the first piece of Doctor Strange artwork that has been revealed. Fans attending the recent D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, however did get any peek at this image and some other piece of Doctor Strange concept art in a sizzle reel. Since then, there have been several photos from the Kathmandu set depicting Cumberbatch and Ejiofor as Strange and Baron Mordo, respectively.
