The Hollywood Reporter says that Universal Pictures has acquired the North American distribution rights to the Tom Hanks-directed Larry Crowne, in which Hanks will also star with Julia Roberts, his co-star from 2007’s Charlie Wilson’s War.
Hanks co-wrote the film with Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding). It centers on a man (Hanks) forced to reinvent himself and find a new career as he navigates the second act of his life.
Hanks and Gary Goetzman also will produce for Playtone, with Philippe Rousselet serving as executive producer.
Larry Crowne will start production in April in Los Angeles.
