Universal Pictures is putting a fifth installment of its “Fast and Furious” franchise, with the working title of Fast Five, on the fast track. Variety says the studio has closed deals with Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, director Justin Lin and producer Neal Moritz to return.
Last year’s fourth installment was the highest-grossing “Fast and Furious” film and Universal’s top grosser of 2009, making $343 million worldwide.
Chris Morgan is writing Fast Five, in which Dom (Diesel) and Brian (Walker) are fugitives being pursued by relentless lawmen.
Filming is scheduled to begin later this year for a 2011 release.
