Check out the poster for the two-part Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play
Even though Harry Potter has come and gone, both in print and on the big screen, author J.K. Rowling isn’t staying too far away from her “Wizarding World.” Not only is she writing the upcoming spinoff film series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but it was revealed earlier this year that Rowling will be expanding the story of Harry Potter to the London stage with a two-part Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play. Today, Pottermore revealed the first artwork for the event.
English television writer Jack Thorne and Tony Award-winning director John Tiffany, who recently adapted the Swedish film Let the Right One In for the stage, worked with Rowling closely on Cursed Child play. Although it was originally speculated to be a prequel story focusing on Harry’s parents, Lily and James, Rowling took to Twitter to let people know that the Cursed Child play is specifically not any kind of prequel.
“I’m also very excited to confirm today that a new play called ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ will be opening in London next year,” said Rowling in her original announcement. “It will tell a new story, which is the result of a collaboration between writer Jack Thorne, director John Tiffany and myself. I don’t want to say too much more, because I don’t want to spoil what I know will be a real treat for fans.”
Rowling will co-produce the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play along with theater veterans Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender. Look for it to open at the Palace Theatre on London’s West End next year.
In the gallery viewer below, you can check out the full Cursed Child play poster. Just above that, however, is a 15-second animated version.
