20th Century Fox will be having a Merry Christmas, indeed. On Wednesday, the studio released Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel, which jumped to the top spot at the box office with $18.8 million its first day.
The studio’s Avatar made yet another $16.4 million in second place on Wednesday. The James Cameron film has now reached $126 million domestically in just five days of release.
Wednesday also marked the first day of wide release for Paramount Pictures’ Up in the Air. The Jason Reitman-directed pic collected $1.7 million and its total stands at $11 million so far.
