Maisie Williams will star in the YA zombie film The Forest of Hands and Teeth
Variety reports that “Game of Thrones” actress Maisie Williams is in talks to star in writer/director Kate Maberly’s adaptation of The Forest of Hands and Teeth, a zombie story based on the 2009 YA horror book of the same name by first-time author Carrie Ryan. Doug Liman, director of big budget fantasies like Jumper and Edge of Tomorrow, will produce the film for actress-turned-filmmaker Maberly (The Secret Garden).
Here’s the synopsis: “The story is set ‘sometime in the future,’ in a world where most of the human race has been taken by a bloodthirsty virus that leaves them roaming the planet as cannibals. Mary (Williams) seeks a world beyond the fenced-off village of survivors. The survival of the human race soon becomes dependent upon her success in leading a ragtag group through the dark depths of the Forest of Hands and Teeth.”
“I am so incredibly excited to be stepping into the ‘Forest’ and collaborating with such a brilliant creative mind as Doug’s,” Maberly said. “We can’t wait to bring Ryan’s fantastical world to life and are absolutely thrilled to have Maisie on board.”
Williams, who received a Saturn Award this past June for Best Performance by a Younger Actor for her work on “Game of Thrones,” will next be seen opposite Jason Sudeikis and Jessica Biel in the indie drama The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. The 18 year old will also make a guest appearance on the BBC sci-fi phenomenon “Doctor Who” in two episodes airing this October.
