The Barden Bellas are back this week as the quite rewatchable Pitch Perfect 2arrives on a variety of formats, including as a combo back with the first film. Other recent big screen releases, meanwhile, include the romantic comedy Results, starring Guy Pearce, Cobie Smulders and Kevin Corrigan, and the French biopic Saint Laurent, starring Gaspard Ulliel as the fashion designer.
The Criterion Collection has three new additions this week, including a lavish Moonrise Kingdomset and two films from Australia filmmaker Bruce Beresford: his Academy Award-nominated Breaker Morantand Mister Johnson, Beresford’s immediate followup to his Academy Award-winning Driving Miss Daisy.
Two very different film classics celebrate their 40th anniversaries the week of September 22. There’s both a new Blu-ray of Dog Day Afternoon(which now includes the 2009 feature-length documentary I Knew It Was You: Rediscovering John Cazale) and, in an elaborate box set, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
To get audiences ready for their upcoming Goosebumps (in theaters October 16), Sony is offering this week the first ever Blu-rays of contemporary family hits The Indian in the Cupboardand Zathura.
Olive Films has a trio of catalogue comedies arriving September 22 with the Norm MacDonald cult comedy Dirty Workand both MannequinandMannequin Two: On the Move. They’re also delivering some ’70s exploitation fare with the first-ever HD releases of Black Caesar, BustingandSlaughter. They’re rounding things off with all 12 chapters of the 1950 Republic Serial The Invisible Monster.
Kino-Lorber delivers two Blu-ray debuts this week with the 1974 thriller The Destructors (starring Michael Caine, Anthony Quinn and James Mason) and John Sturges’ 1965 sci-fi tinged thriller The Satan Bug.
Scream Factory continues their impressive commitment to horror with a features-packed Blu-ray of Michael Winner’s supernatural tale of terror The Sentinel.
