At the tail end of this morning’s Invictus press conference, Matt Damon was cornered by a number of reporters asking for an update on the next Jason Bourne film in wake of the recent news that The Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass would not be returning. Damon stunned everyone by responding that he was not interested in the part without Greengrass helming.
“When [Greengrass] wants to do one, we’ll do it,” said Damon.
“Are you saying that it’s Greengrass or no ‘Bourne’?” one reporter asked.
“Yeah, I’ve always said that,” replied the actor, adding, “But I think it’ll happen down the road. We just don’t have a script yet.”
It should be noted that it was not entirely clear as to whether or not Damon was fully aware of Greengrass’ announcement at the beginning of the week about his intentions to not return to the franchise, a series originally launched without Greengrass’ involvement.
Matt Damon is set to star under in Paul Greengrass’s war drama, Green Zone early next year. Next week he can be seen opposite Morgan Freeman in Clint Eastwood’s Invictus.
