‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ to Play Cannes Film Festival

It was just announced Mad Max: Fury Road will play at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, as expected, though not as the opening night film. The movie will play out of competition on May 14, the second day of the festival and one day before the film opens worldwide. This leaves room for a high profile Hollywood title to open the fest with Brad Bird‘s Tomorrowland long been thought to be the likely opener.

Press will have all seen the film by that point, which means this is an opportunity for the festival to trot out the likes of stars Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult on the red carpet and make a stir on the Croisette.
