I didn’t particularly enjoyed either of the two previous Dan Brown novel adaptations, not The Da Vinci Code (a book that was so bad I had to stop reading it) or Angels and Demons (a book I actually enjoyed and a movie that was even worse than Da Vinci). Next up is Inferno, with Tom Hanks back to star as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon and Ron Howard back to direct. Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) was already announced as a co-star and today Sony announced three more names joining the cast and they are, in fact, reason to possibly get interested.
First off, Jones will star opposite Hanks as Dr. Sienna Brooks, a doctor tending to Langdon at the beginning of the story after he’s grazed by a bullet and eventually becomes mixed in his latest mystery drawing from Dante’s dark epic poem.
[amz asin=”B00AXIZ4TQ” size=”small”]Joining Hanks and Jones in this Florence-set story are Irrfan Khan as Harry Sims (aka The Provost), Omar Sy (The Intouchables) as Christoph Bruder and Sidse Babett Knudsen whom I just praised this morning for her work in The Duke of Burgundy (read the review here) as Dr. Elizabeth Sinskey, the head of the World Health Organization. The press release also says there are several additionally internationally known stars likely to join the cast in the coming weeks.
Of course, as easy as it may be to get excited for this international cast, let’s not forget The Da Vinci Code included Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Paul Bettany, Jean Reno and Alfred Molina and Angels and Demons co-starred Ewan McGregor, Ayelet Zurer, Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd and Armin Mueller-Stahl. The problem with these films have never been the cast, they’ve been the story. Let’s hope Inferno can improve in that department as the casting seems, once again, taken care of.
The movie is already set for a Oct 14, 2016 release.
