Let the Right One In helmer Tomas Alfredson will direct Nicole Kidman in true-life sex-change drama The Danish Girl, reports Variety.
The script, written by Lucinda Coxon, is based on David Ebershoff’s novel about Danish painter Einar Wegener (Kidman), who in 1931 became the first person to go through a sex-change operation to become a woman.
Charlize Theron, who had been attached to play Wegener’s wife, Gerda, has left the production.
Alfredson plans to shoot The Danish Girl before his previously-announced John le Carre adaptation, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.
