The battle to be the first Snow White film in theaters this year has already been won as Relativity will release Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror this March, but they have moved the release date slightly, tightening the gap, as it will no longer hit theaters on March 16, but now on March 30, two months ahead of Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman, which arrives on June 1.
While both films feature an adaptation of the Snow White story, they are both clearly different entities as Mirror Mirror is a more family-friendly feature starring Julia Roberts and Lilly Collins while Snow White and the Huntsman is expected to be a PG-13 actioner starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron.
Mirror Mirror is described as “a spirited adventure comedy” that centers on an evil Queen (Roberts) who steals control of a kingdom, and an exiled princess (Collins) who enlists the help of seven resourceful rebels to win back her birthright. Along with Roberts and Collins, Mirror Mirror co-stars Armie Hammer, Nathan Lane and Sean Bean.
In addition to this news, Relativity also sent over the following character featurette taking a look at Julia Roberts in the role of the evil queen and it should give you some idea of just what kind of film this will be as it looks to be filled with the same kind of visual imagery we expect from Tarsem, but far more childish than films such as The Fall, The Cell and the recently released Immortals.
