Variety reports that Toby Kebbell will play celebrity illusionist Drake Stone in Disney’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Stone joins forces with Alfred Molina’s evil sorcerer, Horvath, to gain ultimate powers.
The Jerry Bruckheimer production, based on the popular segment in Disney’s animated classic Fantasia, takes place in contemporary New York, where a wizard (Nicolas Cage) searches for an apprentice (Jay Baruchel). Teresa Palmer also stars in the film, directed by Jon Turteltaub.
Executive producing are Cage and his Saturn Films partner Norm Golightly as well as Todd Garner, Barry Waldman and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ Mike Stenson and Chad Oman.
The film is scheduled for release on July 16, 2010.
