I caught the trailer for The Tourist before my screening of The Social Network last week and my, oh, my… what a bad trailer. This is a trailer you can’t even judge the film on it is so bad. What is going on? Who is what? Where’s the intrigue? It’s a trailer that makes you wonder if the film itself will be as discombobulated and erratic as it is.
Of course, with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp headlining and Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others) directing a Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park) script, if you’re me you’re more than willing to give a bad trailer a pass. It’s one of the reasons I don’t like watching trailers anyway.
So, with that said, here’s the poster for the film which features Jolie as a female Interpol agent who uses an American tourist (Depp) in an attempt to flush out an elusive criminal with whom she once had an affair.
The Tourist hits theaters on December 10.
