What I Watched, What You Watched: Installment #50

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
QUICK THOUGHTS: When Bill first brought to me his idea for the Bill’s corner and don’t particularly understand the love for Gondry outside of this one specific movie.

However, I still maintain the ending of Eternal Sunshine is a letdown considering the intrigue the first 75% brings to the table. It’s my opinion they should have never got back together at the end. To me that’s a decision that would have been more in tune with the nature of the rest of the film whereas the ending as is seems like a bit of a cop out all things considered. Do any of you agree with me or do you prefer it just the way it is?

Casablanca (1942)
QUICK THOUGHTS: I finally watched the Blu-ray copy I received for Christmas last year and oh man does this film look phenomenal. If you haven’t seen it yet you absolutely have to. If you have and love it might I recommend the single-disc Blu-ray if you aren’t up to buying the Ultimate version. I’ve linked to all available versions below, so take your pick but certainly add it to your library if you haven’t already. This is a film you can put on no matter you’re mood and satisfy any moment you’re in need of a movie.

Dead Reckoning (1947)
QUICK THOUGHTS: Watching Casablanca got me in the mood for Bogey and this was the only film of his available on NetFlix Instant Play that I hadn’t seen so I hit play and was off. It’s a solid film and one I would watch again with a nice little twist to it. It probably takes advantage of voice over a little too much, but by the end that’s out of the way.

The Maltese Falcon (1948)
QUICK THOUGHTS: And the Bogey run continues and this one also brought the return of both Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet from Casablanca. While I wouldn’t say Maltese Falcon is on par with Casablanca, it’s damn entertaining and it’s coming to Blu-ray on October 5 (preorder here) along with The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. It’s going to be an expensive October I’d say as it also brings The Exorcist, Beauty and the Beast, Pscyho and the Back to the Future trilogy all to Blu-ray. If you don’t believe me just click here.
