ShoWest has come to a close with its Final Night Banquet and Award Ceremony, and ComingSoon.net has posted some exclusive pictures from the event and the preceding press conferences in our gallery. (We may have some videos from the earlier press conference to share soon.)
Hosted by Billy Bush from “Access Hollywood,” the awards ceremony was packed with exhibitioners, studio execs and the dozen or so actors, actresses and filmmakers honored by the annual exhibitors’ conference.
Male Star of Tomorrow went to Chris Pine, who’ll be appearing as James Tiberius Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ relaunch of Star Trek on May 9, while Breakthrough Performer of the Year went to Zac Efron, who attended ShoWest two years earlier with the cast of Hairspray.
Sienna Miller received the award for Supporting Actress of the Year with accompanying footage from G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, described here, while the six young ladies that star in Summit Entertainment’s upcoming horror remake Sorority Row (October 2)–Rumer Willis, Briana Evigan, Jamie Chung, Margo Harshman, Audrina Partridge, and Leah Pipes–collectively received an award for Female Stars of Tomorrow. (As you can see, they are a half dozen of the most beautiful women to ever grace the stage at ShoWest at the same time.)
Bradley Cooper from Warner Bros.’ upcoming comedy The Hangover (June 5)–a movie which has gone over in a BIG way at ShoWest this week thanks to a hilarious trailer–received Comedy Star of the Year, accompanied by a montage of his appearances in Wedding Crashers, Failure to Launch and even Wet Hot American Summer.
Male and Female Star of the Year went to Dennis Quaid and Rachel McAdams, who previously received a Supporting Actress award at ShoWest four years earlier, and Sir Michael Caine received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his extensive body of work stretching back over forty years. The montage sequence assembled from Sir Michael’s hundred film roles to commemorate his career was quite impressive, and his acceptance of the award was received by a standing ovation by all in attendance.
Filmmakers honored included Watchmen‘s Zack Snyder with Director of the Year and Michael Bay with a Vanguard Award for Excellence in Filmmaking. The latter’s comments about 3D possibly being a “gimmick” didn’t go over too well with the exhibitors whose businesses had been thriving. He showed a clip from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which is described here.
