2010 Oscars Live Blog: Oscar Winners and Commentary

7:28:56 PM: Again, congratulations, you found Page 4.

7:29:06 PM: John Travolta is out to present Inglourious Basterds as a Best Picture nominee.

7:30:17 PM: Commercial time… take a bathroom break.

7:34:35 PM: Sandra Bullock out to present Best Cinematography, a category I am baffled on, but feel like my Avatar call is looking good after the Art Direction win.

7:35:28 PM: And the winner is Avatar

7:36:05 PM: I have no idea where I am with predictions right now and have no time to check. Here comes Demi Moore to present…

7:37:36 PM: …the In Memoriam piece

7:39:04 PM: With music and lyrics accompanied by a live performance by James Taylor.

7:42:47 PM: Supposedly we have just over 45 minutes to go… can they finish on time? Are you anxious for the Iron Man 2 trailer during Kimmel?

7:45:20 PM: J-Lo and Sam Worthington out for Best Score… Worthington is excited… and chewing gum.

7:46:01 PM: My pick here is Up and I think that seems to be the overwhelming consensus.

7:46:39 PM: Interesting, instead of having the Original Song nominees perform this year we get a performance of the Original Score nominees. I like.

7:47:37 PM: Okay, yes, this is MUCH better than listening to the original songs. Personal preference of course, but I really like this decision.

7:48:37 PM: While this is going on, let me take a moment and say how the show is relatively without a host. Martin is putting the most work in, but they are pretty much invisible.

7:51:13 PM: By the way, apologies, with my first comment I just realized when you comment it bounces you back to the first page. No idea how to fix that quickly.

7:52:06 PM: And the winner is Up

7:53:51 PM: Michael Giacchino just told everyone what they’re doing isn’t a waste of time. Thanks Mike.

7:54:10 PM: Gerard Butler and Bradley Cooper now to present Best Visual Effects, a serious no-brainer.

7:54:40 PM: And the winner is Avatar

7:55:17 PM: No surprise there.

7:55:29 PM: It’s still a race between Avatar and The Hurt Locker… I have to assume the editing category will lead us to the Best Picture winner. I picked Avatar for editing and Hurt Locker for Picture. Strangely enough, I now think I was wrong on editing.

7:56:39 PM: Jason Bateman will now present Up in the Air as one of the Best Picture nominees.

7:59:00 PM: Commercial break and 30 minutes to go… hang in there… hang in there…

7:59:16 PM: Personally this year has been a bit boring, I liked last year and the themed approach they took to the technical awards. Oh well.

8:01:09 PM: Matt Damon is next to present and his duties will be the winner for Best Documentary. My pick is The Cove.

8:01:59 PM: And the winner is The Cove

8:05:39 PM: Tyler Perry is next to present for Best Film Editing.

8:06:16 PM: Hurt Locker? Avatar? Will this tell us the Best Picture winner?

8:07:10 PM: And the winner is The Hurt Locker

8:07:41 PM: Okay, I missed that one, but I think we can call it a competition now with The Hurt Locker likely to now take Director and Picture.

8:08:19 PM: The only award that now may be up in the air is Best Actress. Any chance Gabby could upset? Fingers crossed.

8:08:51 PM: Keanu Reeves will now introduce The Hurt Locker as one of the ten Best Picture nominees.

8:10:01 PM: Commercial time, and The Hurt Locker now leads with 4 awards followed by Avatar with 3.

8:14:32 PM: And we’re back with Quentin Tarantino and Pedro Almodovar making for the most impressive pairing of the night.

8:15:01 PM: They are presenting Best Foreign Language Film… My pick is El Secreto De Sus Ojos (The Secret in Their Eyes), readers picked The White Ribbon.

8:16:19 PM: And the winner is El Secreto De Sus Ojos (The Secret in Their Eyes)

8:17:01 PM: Nailed it, but both A Prophet and The White Ribbon made my top five of last year, A Prophet was my #1. Get my complete list here.

8:18:59 PM: Kathy Bates is now out to present Avatar as a Best Picture nominee.

8:19:23 PM: We have Actor, Actress, Director and Picture left folks… Which means we likely have Bridges, Bullock, Bigelow (three Bs!) and The Hurt Locker left to win awards.

8:20:20 PM: But first! More cervical cancer commercials!

8:20:34 PM: I am surprised more people don’t buy advertising during this show. I got a feeling this year’s Oscars would be watched by more people.

8:21:16 PM: I mean, Cottonelle toilet paper? That’s the product we get during the Oscars? I don’t follow.

8:21:47 PM: Now, had the Cottonelle commercials done something like “Cleaning the ass of Hollywood for X amount of years,” that would have been solid.

8:23:54 PM: Best Actor…

8:24:18 PM: There’s no chance Jeff Bridges loses this is there? I mean even with Hurt Locker momentum.

8:24:43 PM: Wow, here we have Tim Robbins, Colin Farrell, Michelle Pfeiffer, Julianne Moore and Vera Farmiga to present Best Actor. Apparently each will tell a story of the nominees. Pfeiffer begins with Bridges.

8:25:41 PM: Whew, happy to see I spelled Pfeiffer correctly.

8:27:17 PM: Sorry, but this is just boring. I am not interested in hearing a bunch of ass-kissing.

8:31:45 PM: Now Kate Winslet will present the winner…

8:32:12 PM: And the winner is Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart

8:33:07 PM: Great camerawork there, good shot of Bridges getting the award from Winslet.

8:36:40 PM: Wow, another commercial… gonna do a page break…
