Outside of playing Freddie Kruger in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise I never thought Robert Englund was much of a talent, and even the role of Freddie turned into a joke. However, who knows how ol’ Bob will be behind the camera as Variety reports Englund is set to direct The Vij with Christopher Lee attached to star.
The Vij is a dark gothic fantasy based on an eponymous novel by Russian writer Nikolaj Gogol. The story revolves around an evil genie who conditions the actions of a young priest, leading him to commit murder and fall in love with an old witch who is actually not what she seems.
Uh, can we all get together and say, “STUPID!” Really Robert? This is what you want to work with? An evil genie? A’ight, whatever floats your boat.
Lee will play a God-like character called The Father, with Englund also starring along with Russian actress Olga Schuvalova as Alina, the female lead.
Oh, and this isn’t Englund’s first directorial outing. He also directed 976-EVIL (never heard of it), an upcoming release called Killer Pad (a haunted house movie) and two episodes in the “Freddy’s Nightmares” series from 1989 that I never even knew existed.
