Over the summer, Valhalla Motion Pictures, Platinum Studios and Top Cow Productions teamed up and announced they were in development on a live action film based on the comic book “Magdalena.”
A heroine who first appeared within the pages of Top Cow’s “The Darkness,” Magdalena has been given two limited series and has hopped around various other titles like “Vampirella,” “Witchblade” and even “Tomb Raider.” Jenna Dewan (pictured) will play the titular character, a woman name Patience who discovers that she’s a part of the lineage of female warriors descended from Mary Magdalene who fight supernatural evil.
“She’s terrific. It’s kind of like ‘The Da Vinci Code’ meets ‘Wanted,'” says producer Gale Anne Hurd who recently shepherded the new Punisher: War Zone, one of the most gleefully violent films you’ll see this year that’s arriving in theaters this Friday. “You’ve got the mythology and a character who isn’t initially aware of her legacy which something I love. Many of my films deal with that. And it’s still has supernatural elements.”
Also starring in Magdalena is Luke Goss (Hellboy II: The Golden Army). He’s playing Kristof, an agent sent by the secret organization that has been the guardian of the Magdalena lineage. “Luke is going to be great for the role and Jenna has steeped herself in this the same way that Ray [Stevenson] has with Frank Castle. We’re in currently discussions for a director.”
