James Franco’s Zeroville will debut in 2016
Alchemy has preemptively acquired North American distribution rights to the dramedy Zeroville, directed by James Franco from a screenplay by Paul Felten and Ian Olds. In addition to directing, Franco stars in the film opposite Megan Fox, Seth Rogen, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride, Jacki Weaver, Joey King, and Dave Franco.
James Franco and Vince Jolivette are producing the project via their Rabbit Bandini Productions banner along with Caroline Aragon, and Michael Mendelsohn via his Patriot Pictures banner. Zeroville is based on Steve Erickson’s 2007 novel of the same name. Alchemy is planning to release the film, which is currently in post-production, in 2016.
Brooke Ford, Alchemy’s EVP of Marketing, said: “Steve Erickson’s novel is a hysterical trip into Hollywood history, and for the film adaptation, no one is better positioned to tap into the weirdness and hilarity of this town than James Franco. James has proven there is no subject matter that he and his collaborators can’t brilliantly satirize, and we can’t wait to share their comedic take on Hollywood with moviegoers across North America.”
In Zeroville, a young man obsessed with cinema arrives in Hollywood in 1969 and climbs the ranks of Hollywood’s ’70s movie elite finding true love to be a dangerous romance in Hollywood.
