Mallrats 2, Mallbrats, has found a home at Pennsylvania’s Exton Square Mall
Mallrats 2, Mallbrats, will begin production in January 2016 at the Exton Square Mall in Exton, PA, writer, director and star Kevin Smith officially announced today via social media.
“We found our MALL, y’all!” he writes. “This January, the @extonsquaremall in Exton, PA will star in #Mallrats 2! @jayandsilentbob are coming to Chester County! Big thanks to financiers StarStream, who found the mall & the money! They’re making this #MR2 dream come true!”
Smith originally announced back in March that he has been gearing up for another return to the cinematic “View Askewniverse” he launched in 1994 with Clerks. A sequel to his second feature film, Mallrats 2 is slated to feature the return of Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Ethan Suplee, Shannen Doherty, Michael Rooker, Renee Humphrey, Joey Lauren Adams, Sven-Ole Thorsen, Scott Mosier, Bryan Johnson, Walt Flanagan, Brian O’Halloran, Claire Forlani and, as himself, Stan “The Man” Lee. Of course, Smith will also reprise his role as Silent Bob opposite Jason Mewes’ Jay.
The original Mallrats was filmed at the Eden Prairie Center in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Pennsylvania does have a history with iconic cinematic malls, however, as George Romero famously filmed his 1978 classic Dawn of the Dead at the Monroeville Mall in Monroeville, PA. Smith even gave Monroeville a shout-out in his 2008 comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno, naming a fictional hockey team the Monroeville Zombies.
Smith’s next film is the comedy Yoga Hosers and, given Smith’s fondness for working with the same people, its a pretty safe bet that a few of that film’s stars will be making their way to Exton as well.
