Anthony Michael hall join Brad Pitt in Netflix’s War Machine
Anthony Michael Hall (The Dead Zone, The Dark Knight, Foxcatcher) has been cast to star opposite Brad Pitt in War Machine, a provocative, satirical comedy from writer-director David Michôd (The Rover, Animal Kingdom) for Plan B Entertainment and Netflix.
War Machine concerns a four star, “rock star” general (Pitt) whose lethal reputation and impeccable track record vaults him to command the American war in Afghanistan. Principal photography is scheduled to start later this month. Hall will play General Hank Pulver, loosely based on Stanley McCrystal’s second in command, General Mike Flynn.
Inspired by the best-selling book “The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan” by the late Michael Hastings, War Machine is produced by Netflix and Pitt alongside his Plan B partners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, and producer Ian Bryce (World War Z, Saving Private Ryan).
The role marks a major return to feature films for Hall, who launched his career with three films from writer-director John Hughes: Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Weird Science. Hall had the leading role in USA Network’s “The Dead Zone,” which was one of the highest-rated cable television series. He was recently seen in Foxcatcher opposite Steve Carell, and alongside Guy Pearce in the film Results, a comedy about a team of personal trainers.
