The Hollywood Reporter brings word that filmmakers Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch, who wrote and directed the 2014 horror Starry Eyes, will take on Exorcism Diaries for Lionsgate/Summit Entertainment.
Previously drafted by Oculus duo Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard, the film will be produced by Roy Lee (The Woman in Black, Rings), Doug Davison (The Strangers, The Grudge 3), and Sonny Mallhi (At the Devil’s Door, House at the End of the Street).
Widmyer and Kolsch will rewrite and direct the feature, which, in true horror fashion, is “based on a true story.” The basis for the film comes from the book “The Real Story Behind the Exorcist: A Study of the Haunted Boy and Other True-Life Horror Legends from Around the Nation’s Capital” by Mark Opsasnick.
Having been in development for several years now, and previously almost adapted by Knocked Up and This is the End star Jay Baruchel, the film tells the story of “a young woman, fresh out of rehab and looking to make amends, who discovers her family’s horrifying connection to the most famous exorcism of all time may be the cause behind her brother’s increasingly violent behavior.”
