Sanjay’s Super Team will debut in front of The Good Dinosaur
USA Today is giving us our first look at Sanjay’s Super Team, the new Pixar short that will be attached to all showings of the animation powerhouse’s next feature film The Good Dinosaur on November 25. Check out the pics in the gallery below!
The autobiographical short marks the directorial debut of 41-year-old Sanjay Patel, whose 20-year animation career began at “The Simpsons” followed by a long stretch as an animator/story artist at Pixar, starting with their second feature A Bug’s Life. The story melds the style of American cartoon superheroes with three deities from Hindu culture: the monkey-like Hanuman, the goddess of power and protection Durga, and the blue-skinned Vishnu, who represents preservation. Oscar-winning composer Mychael Danna (Life of Pi) provides the soundtrack for the story, which, like many of Pixar’s other shorts, contains no dialogue.
Both Patel and producer Nicole Paradis Grindle will be attending Comic-Con International this Thursday July 9 from 11:00am-to-12:00 p.m. for a panel titled “The Super Story Behind the Pixar Short Sanjay’s Super Team,” which will take place at the Indigo Ballroom at Hilton San Diego Bayfront.
“Patel’s animation very clearly comes from a different cultural place than all the other stories we’ve told before,” Grindle says. “And for kids who come from these backgrounds to see themselves on screen, it’s exciting for us.”
