The Crow Remake Loses Jack Huston

It appears to be one step forward, two steps back today for the upcoming remake of The Crow. This morning brought word that, in addition to securing a role in the upcoming Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker is in talks to play a role in new big screen take on the James O’Barr comic book. Now, though, Variety has revealed that The Crow has lost leading man Jack Huston due to scheduling issues.

“Jack Huston is unfortunately unavailable to continue with us on ‘The Crow,'” says director Corin Hardy. “‘The Crow’ is an amazing project, and I am grateful that we have the time and patience to get it right. We look forward to unveiling our new lead and starting to film over the next several weeks.”

The Crow was originally published as a four issue miniseries in 1989 and was later adapted into a film version by director Alex Proyas. The 1994 film starred Brandon Lee as protagonist Eric Draven. Tragically, Lee died in an accident during production. However, the role was recast for several sequels and even a short-lived television series. In the comics, too, O’Barr’s character has been sequelized in quite a few different stories and formats.

Huston isn’t the first lead to exit the project. Luke Evans was formerly attached to play Draven, but officially departed the film earlier this year.

The film features a script by Cliff Dorfman. O’Barr is also set to work as a creative consultant on the film. No release date has, as of yet, been announced, although it sounds like filmmaking will move forward as planned with a new lead already being targeted. Check back for updates as they become available!
