Sundance Revisited: David Gordon Green & Ira Sachs

Two of the lower-key films being released this weekend are the latest from two filmmakers who first came to prominence when their films won Jury Prizes at the Sundance Film Festival–David Gordon Green with All the Real Girls in 2003 and Ira Sachs two years later with 40 Shades of Blue. Green has kept fairly busy since then with movies like the genre thriller Undertow and producing other indie films set in the South. Now, he’s back with Snow Angels, a drama starring Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell, while Ira Sachs tackles the period dramedy Married Life, starring Chris Cooper, Pierce Brosnan, Rachel McAdams and Patricia Clarkson.

Even though they are very different films, many parallels can be drawn between them and their filmmakers–both come from Southern roots for instance–and their latest films are both adapted from novels, starring prominent young female stars. Also, neither film is easy to shoehorn into one specific genre either.

Ironically, ComingSoon.net spoke to both filmmakers back-to-back on the same day, and you can read each of those interviews below:
