Josh Gad to Play Lefou in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast

Gad will star opposite Luke Evans, who will playing Gaston, along with leads Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the transformed prince known only as Beast.

Set to be directed by Bill Condon (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) from a screenplay by Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, Beauty and the Beast marks the latest in a string of live-action retellings of classic Disney animated classics. In addition to the recently-released Alice in Wonderland and Maleficent, the studio released their Kenneth Branagh-helmed Cinderella today and has a Jon Favreau-directed version of The Jungle Book on the way April 15, 2016, as well as a Tim Burton-ized take on Dumbo in the works.

Gad, who just reprised the voice of snowman Olaf in the short film Frozen Fever, stars opposite Billy Crystal in the upcoming FX series “The Comedians,” and has a supporting role in this summer’s Adam Sandler vehicle Pixels. He is also expected to portray Roger Ebert opposite Will Ferrell’s Russ Meyer in the biopic Russ & Roger Go Beyond and he will, of course, return as Olaf in Frozen 2.
