Joe and Anthony Russo, the sibling team behind last year’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, have signed a three-year first-look features deal with Sony Pictures. The deal is set to commence this April.
Although the Russos are finding incredible success in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and are the rumored frontrunners to direct the two-part Avengers: Infinity War, they’ve also been working with Sony on the upcoming thriller The Gray Man, based on the novel franchise by Mark Greaney.
“Joe and Anthony Russo are terrifically exciting filmmakers with a sensibility that matches the tastes of audiences worldwide,” says Sony producer Doug Belgrad.
“Joe and Anthony Russo have demonstrated their ability to bring excitement, audacity and phenomenal commercial success to a variety of genres and endeavors,” add Michael DeLuca and Hannah Minghella, “and we are proud to add them to the family. Their original voices and fearless execution are a tremendous addition to our studio.”
“We’re thrilled to make a home at Sony Pictures, and to be partnering with the entire team,” say the Russos in a joint statement. “The studio has created an environment that is not only collaborative, but truly filmmaker-friendly and we’re excited to begin developing both new and ambitious material with them.”
The Russo brothers are represented by Phil D’Amecourt at WME and by attorney Karl Austen.
