The next big screen Spider-Man adventure appears to have found its director! According to Latino Review, Drew Goddard will both write and direct the upcoming reboot, which is to be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Goddard is no stranger to either Marvel Studios or Sony Pictures. He was previously set at the showrunner on “Marvel’s Daredevil” before taking writing and directing duties on Sony’s previously-planned Sinister Six film.
Previous reports have indicated that we’ll get our first look at the new Spidey in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, set for release on May 6, 2016. He’ll then get his own solo film, written and directed by Goddard, set for release on July 28, 2017.
Goddard also has quite a history with Joss Whedon, having served as a writer on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel” before collaborating with Whedon on the screenplay to The Cabin in the Woods. Goddard also made his directing debut with that film, which was released in 2012 and included, among its ensemble cast, MCU star Chris Hemsworth. Goddard’s other writing credits include World War Z, Cloverfield and Ridley Scott’s upcoming The Martian.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal will produce the film, which has previous franchise producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach being given Executive Producer titles.
We’re hoping to get confirmation of Goddard’s involvement, so check back in the very near future for any updates!
