Zoolander 2 to Shoot in Rome This Spring!

Derek Zoolander is bringing Blue Steel on a European fling according to Italian site Bad Taste (gratzi to Andrea Bedeschi for the tip), who report that the Mayor of Rome Ignazio Marino has announced that the sequel Zoolander 2 will shoot for 12 weeks in and around the famed Cinecittà Studios this spring.

The Mayor met with star Ben Stiller, who is set to reprise his role as the dimwitted male supermodel, with Justin Theroux co-writing and directing.

“Rome returns to the center of the international destinations of great cinema,” Ignazio stated.

Additionally, Will Ferrell and Owen Wilson are all-but-confirmed to return as Mugatu and Hansel, respectively, with Stiller’s wife Christine Taylor also coming back as Matilda and Oscar-winner Penélope Cruz along for the ride as well. Jonah Hill and supermodel Cara Delevingne have also been rumored for roles in the past.

The original film grossed only $60 million worldwide in 2001, but the film became a fast hit on DVD and plans for a sequel have been discussed for years. Stiller will produce Zoolander 2 alongside Stuart Cornfeld for Paramount Pictures.
