Three more have joined the cast of Oliver Stone’s still-untitled Edward Snowden film opposite the previously-attached Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Looper, 50/50) and Shailene Woodley (Divergent, The Fault in Our Stars). According to a story today at TheWrap, new additions include Academy Award winner Melissa Leo (Prisoners, Flight), two-time nominee Tom Wilkinson (The Lone Ranger, Selma) and Zachary Quinto (Star Trek, Margin Call).
Written and directed by three-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone (Platoon, JFK), the script is based on the books “The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man” by Luke Harding and “Time of the Octopus” by Anatoly Kucherena. The latter book mainly deals with former information analyst Snowden’s time in Russia hoping to get asylum while the United States was demanding his extradition to potentially face jail time for leaking classified information.
Leo will play filmmaker and journalist Laura Poitras, the director of the documentary Citizenfour, with Quinto and Wilkinson starring as The Guardian reporters Glenn Greenwald and Ewen MacAskill, respectively.
The film is being produced by Moritz Borman and Eric Kopeloff, with production scheduled to kicking off in Munich.
