Although he’s best known as the author of the “A Song of Fire and Ice” series (the source material for HBO’s hit series “Game of Thrones”), George R.R. Martin’s literary reach extends far beyond the borders of Westeros. Case in point, The Hollywood Reporter today brings word of In the Lost Lands, an upcoming feature film said to be based on three of Martin’s short stories that has just set Resident Evil franchise star Milla Jovovich to headline opposite “Shameless” star Justin Chatwin. The Pagan Queen‘s Constantin Werner is set to both write and direct.
According to the outlet, the combined stories of In the Lost Lands are officially described as follows:
In one thread, the desperate queen of a city built into a towering mountain hires the sorceress Gray Alys (Jovovich) to travel into the ghostly wasteland called the Lost Lands, to obtain the gift of shape shifting into a werewolf, but she doesn’t realize that the fulfillment of her wish will come at a terrible price.
Meanwhile, warrior girl Sharra must fight a dragon that serves as the gatekeeper of seven worlds to reunite with her lost lover Kaydar. During this quest she meets the mysterious lord of a deserted castle, Laren Dorr, who seduces her so completely that she forgets her quest and stays with him, unaware that he is the real gatekeeper.
And in the futuristic tale Bitterblooms, a young barbarian girl gets spellbound by a lonely witch in a spacecraft, who shows her beauty and love, which turns out to be a net of lies and deceit.
A German-Canadian co-production, In the Lost Lands is set to shoot in Germany at the end of this year. The project is currently being introduced to buyers at Berlin’s European Film Market with Nico Bruinsma, Steve Hoban and Oliver Luer producing and Kirk D’Amico executive producing for Myriad.
