Premiering on Friday night, January 23, it’s a loose adaptation of David Lipsky’s “Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip with David Foster Wallace,” in which the Rolling Stone reporter (played by Eisenberg) spent five days on the road with the late writer David Foster Wallace (Segel) conducting interviews for the book, which was released a year and a half after Wallace’s death.
A24 released Ponsoldt’s previous movie The Spectacular Now, starring Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley, which they picked up at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, grossing $6.8 million when released later that year.
His latest film, which also stars Anna Chlumsky (“Veep”), Joan Cusack, Mamie Gummer and Mickey Sumner, may be sold for somewhere in the $2 to 3 million range according to Deadline.
This is potentially the fourth narrative feature to be picked up pre-festival with Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig’s Mistress America going to Fox Searchlight, Jared Hess’ Don Verdean being scooped up by Lionsgate, and the announcement earlier today that the Guy Pearce-Cobie Smulders comedy Results will be released by Magnolia.
