SpectreVision and Drafthouse Films have announced today they will join forces with Rook Films and Timpson Films to produce The Greasy Strangler, slated to begin shooting in Los Angeles in the spring of 2015. In what can only be described as a cinematic explosion of bad taste, the film will mark the full-length feature directorial debut of Jim Hosking, from an original screenplay by Hosking and Toby Harvard (The ABCs of Death 2). SpectreVision’s Daniel Noah, Josh C. Waller and Elijah Wood will produce along with Andrew Starke of Rook Films and Timpson Films’ founder, Ant Timpson.
“When Ant Timpson sent us Jim and Toby’s script, we all agreed that it was the most disgusting, vile, and all-around grotesquely hilarious piece of cinema we’d ever read,” Spectrevision’s Elijah Wood said. “With imagery we will likely never dislodge from our tender, greasy brains. And that is why it must exist!”
The Greasy Strangler is the story of Ronnie, a man who runs a Disco Walking tour in L.A. along with his browbeaten son, Brayden. When a sexy, alluring woman comes to take the tour, it begins a competition between father and son for her attentions. It also signals the appearance of an oily, slimy inhuman maniac who stalks the streets at night and strangles the innocent, soon dubbed ‘The Greasy Strangler.’
Writer/Director Ben Wheatley (Kill List, High Rise) and Drafthouse Films’ Tim League serve as executive producers. Casting is currently underway for The Greasy Strangler and you can check out the teaser poster for the film below.
