Actress Judy Greer (The Descendants, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) has previously discussed her role as Paul Rudd’s estranged ex-wife Maggie in Ant-Man, and now she’s revealed to IGN that the Marvel blockbuster will likely have more comedy than the trailer hinted at.
“I haven’t seen it yet,” Greer says of the trailer, “but there was a lot of comedy on set and we did a lot of comedic improv. I don’t know what will end up in the movie, but yeah.”
Anyone who has seen “Arrested Development” knows Greer can hold her own when it comes to earning laughs, and Ant-Man co-writer Adam McKay has suggested that he and lead Paul Rudd brought the funny in their overhaul of Edgar Wright’s original script. Greer, of course, has nothing but nice things to say about her pint-sized co-star.
“Paul is so awesome and he’s so great in this role,” Greer says after revealing she was unfamiliar with Marvel Comics before taking the part. “This has been my first comic hero that I’ve really researched and fallen for. I also think the Ant-Man origin story that we tell in our movie is really beautiful and I think there’s something really real about a man trying to better himself for his family.”
As seen in the trailer, Greer’s Maggie and Rudd’s Scott Lang share custody of their child Cassie (Abby Ryder Fortson), who in the comics eventually becomes known as heroes Giant Girl or Stature.
Speaking of giant, 2015 should be a massive year for Greer, who has two more summer blockbusters locked and loaded: Brad Bird’s secretive sci-fi epic Tomorrowland and the hotly-anticipated Jurassic World.
Greer and Rudd are joined by Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Abby Ryder Fortson, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, John Slattery, Gregg Turkington and T.I. in Ant-Man, which is set for a July 17, 2015 release.
