Kate Winslet Enters Negotiations for Untitled Steve Jobs Biopic

Although it seemed late last month that the role was going to Natalie Portman, Variety now confirms that fellow Academy Award winner Kate Winslet (Titanic, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) has entered negotiations to play the female lead in Universal Pictures’ upcoming, still-untitled Steve Jobs biopic. Winslet joins Michael Fassbender (Shame, X-Men: Days of Future Past) as Steve Jobs and Seth Rogen (Neighbors, The Interview) as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Danny Boyle (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire) is directing.

Based on Walter Isaacson’s 2011 biography “Steve Jobs,” the untitled film is written by Aaron Sorkin and is said to focus on three distinct chapters of Jobs’ life, each set against a major product launch, spanning 16 years of the man’s life.

Winslet’s specific role has yet to be revealed. Although our previous report speculated that Portman seemed a good choice to play Jobs’ daughter, Lisa Bennan-Jobs, it’s also very easy to imagine Winslet as his widow, Laurene Powell Jobs.

Winslet can next be seen returning to the dystopic world of of Veronica Roth’s young adult novels in director Robert Schwentke’s The Divergent Series: Insurgent, hitting theaters March 20, 2015. After that, she’ll headline the ensemble cast of John Hillcoat’s crime drama Triple Nine opposite Anthony MackieWoody Harrelson,Chiwetel EjioforCasey AffleckTeresa PalmerNorman ReedusAaron PaulGal Gadot and Michael B.
