Edgar Ramirez (Deliver Us From Evil, Zero Dark Thirty) has joined the cast of Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle helmer David O. Russell’s Joy, based on the life of “Miracle Mop” inventor Joy Mangano. Variety has the news, reporting that Ramirez will join the previously-announced Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro.
Joy tells the true story of Joy Mangano (Lawrence) who, beginning with the “Miracle Mop” in 1990, became world famous selling her inventions on the Home Shopping Network.
Ramirez will play Tony Miranne, who was Mangano’s husband for a time, having met when they were both business students together at Pace University. The pair divorced some time later, however, leaving Joy a single mother of three.
Ramirez, who also starred this year in The Liberator, can next be seen Warner Bros. Pictures’ Point Break remake opposite Ray Winstone (Beowulf, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies, I Am Number Four) and Luke Bracey (The November Man, The Best of Me). Joy will begin production in February 2015 and will shoot from a script by Annie Mumolo (Bridesmaids), currently being rewritten by Russell. Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox will produce alongside Ken Mok.
