Few people in Hollywood spin as many plates as Guillermo del Toro, and he’s got some big plates in the air at the moment. His next film, Crimson Peak, debuts in October of 2015 and after that he plans on making a smaller film before transitioning back to the world of Kaiju and Jaegers with Pacific Rim 2. Speaking with Collider, del Toro was asked about the sequel and revealed some new details on where we will find the world and its characters.
“It’s a few years after the first one. It’s not an immediate follow-up. It is the world having been freed of Kaiju, what happens to the world after – what happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaiju are not a threat. It’s quite a jump.”
Del Toro went on to reveal that Charlie Day and Burn Gorman’s characters will return for the sequel and that fans will be getting more of the “science” of the world.
“You’re gonna get a lot of that,” he said, “but the Kaijus are very different and you’re gonna see a very different type of the robots I think. It’s gonna be quite a different adventure.”
Another project Guillermo has been working on is a script for Dark Universe or “Justice League Dark,” a film that sees the characters from the dark side of the DCU, such as John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, and Swamp Thing, come together to stop an ultimate evil. Now, Forbes has learned that the script for the film has been completed and is in the hands of WB’s executives, meaning a decision about further progress on the film could come any day now.
Back at the San Diego Comic-Con, Guillermo revealed to us that the project was separate from the other DC films for the time being, but that eventually they would all come together.
No release date has been set for Justice League Dark, but Pacific Rim 2 will stomp into theaters on April 7, 2017. Which of these projects are you most looking forward to?
