Although there was a full decade between his first and second directorial features, (2004’s Garden State and the recent Wish I Was Here), it sounds like creative multihyphenate Zach Braff (“Scrubs,” Oz The Great and Powerful) won’t be waiting quite as long for his next directing gig. Deadline has just revealed that Braff is looking into potentially helming New Line Cinema’s upcoming Going in Style remake.
Released in 1979, the original Going in Style was directed by Martin Brest and stars George Burns, Art Carney and Lee Strasberg as a trio of senior citizens who decide to rob a bank and take their winnings to Las Vegas.
The remake was announced in early 2013 and will feature a screenplay by Ted Melfi. Initially planned for Don Scardino (The Incredible Burt Wonderstone) to direct, it was suggested earlier this year that Melfi himself might take helming duties on the film. Mefli’s own feature directing debut, St. Vincent, is in theaters now.
Donald De Line is set to produce Going in Style with Tony Bill (who produced the 1979 original) set to executive produce.
