Melvil Poupaud on His Speed Racer Role

While talking with ComingSoon.net about Zoe Cassavetes’ upcoming indie film Broken English, French actor Melvil Poupaud (star of François Ozon’s Time to Leave) let slip out that he’ll be playing the part of a race commentator in Warner Bros.’ Speed Racer, directed by the Wachowski brothers.

“I’m supposed to do a few days on the Wachowski brothers movie ‘Speed Racer,'” he told ComingSoon.net. “I met them in Berlin and they’re crazy American nowadays directors. It’s a small part—I’m not even sure if it’s going to be in the movie at the end, you never know. I’m an ancient race champion that now comments for the TV network’s races, so he’s kind of cool and pretentious, and at one point, when the race becomes crazy, he starts speaking in French.”

So essentially, Poupaud may be adding some humor to the movie in his role… if it makes it to the movie, of course.

Broken English opens in select cities on Friday, June 22, and Speed Racer this theaters on May 9, 2008
