New Line is moving forward on its feature adaptation of The King of Kong, a documentary about rivals battling for supremacy in video game “Donkey Kong.”
The company has hired Michael Bacall (Manic) to write the script. Picturehouse won rights at Slamdance to distribute the documentary in theaters this summer, while sister company New Line has remake rights and control of documentary distribution rights outside North America.
New Line is fast-tracking the feature adaptation, with the original’s director, Seth Gordon, attached to helm and Ed Cunningham set as executive producer. Beau Bauman will be a producer.
The documentary hits theaters on August 17.
