Once again, four new movies opened nationwide on Friday and once again, none of them were able to defeat Shia LaBeouf’s hit thriller Disturbia, which continued its run at #1 with an estimated $9.1 million, allowing Paramount/DreamWorks to claim the spot every single week in April. Disturbia has earned $52.2 million after three weeks and cost about $20 million to make.
Surprisingly, David S. Goyer’s suspense thriller The Invisible beat Nicolas Cage’s sci-fi action thriller Next by making $7.6 million in 2,019 theaters. The latter made $7.2 million in 2,725 locations.
New Line’s crime drama Fracture dropped two spots to fourth. The Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling thriller collected $7.1 million its second weekend for a total of $21.3 million.
DreamWorks’ Blades of Glory rounded out the top five with $5.2 million and has reached $108.1 million after five weeks.
Other newcomers included Lionsgate’s The Condemned, starring “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, which earned just $4 million from 2,310 theaters. Jamie Kennedy’s new comedy Kickin’ It Old Skool made just $2.8 million from 1,816 theaters.
