Anya Taylor-Joy talks returning as Alia Atreides in Dune 3
Dune: Part Two made a few changes to Alia Atreides and the character is not as directly involved in events as in Frank Herbert’s original novel. However, Anya Taylor-Joy has a cameo as the character in a futuristic dream sequence which was broken down by cinematographer Greig Fraser in an interview with ComingSoon’s Editor-in-Chief.
Following that, Anya Taylor-Joy is expected to reprise her role in Dune 3. But when asked about an update, The Queen’s Gambit actress didn’t know much about the status of the film. Speaking with British GQ, she said, “’ll know when you do, I think we’re all really hopeful.”
But she also showed excitement to be back for playing a much more significant role in Dune Messiah. She continued:
“Listen, I’m ready now, I’ve done the training … I think you kind of need to do the movie in order to be ready for it.”
Denis Villeneuve is expected to direct an adaptation of Nuclear War: A Scenario before returning for Dune Messiah. So, it will be a while before Anya Taylor-Joy returns as Alia Atreides alongside Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides and Zendaya’s Chani.
The official synopsis of Dune: Part Two reads:
“This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”
Other stars from the cast of Dune 2 include Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, and Stephen McKinley Henderson.
