The highly anticipated Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga starring Anya Taylor-Joy brings another stunt-heavy outing in the franchise. But filming George Miller’s new prequel took a hefty toll on the actress as conditions weren’t necessarily easy for her. Here’s what she had to say about the production.
Anya Taylor-Joy teases intense Furiosa filming conditions
Playing the younger version of Mad Max: Fury Road’s Furiosa might seem nice on paper, but it came with some major challenges for Anya Taylor-Joy. She revealed that the filming was “hard” and lonely for her.
While speaking with the New York Times, she said:
“I’ve never been more alone than making that movie. I don’t want to go too deep into it, but everything that I thought was going to be easy was hard.”
Anya Taylor-Joy takes over from Charlize Theron to portray the origin story of Imperator Furiosa. She expected the filming to be intense and wished to grow as an actor by being put into extreme circumstances. Eventually, she got exactly that working with Miller.
Speaking of the director, The Queen’s Gambit actor had nothing but praises. She described Miller’s understanding of Furiosa, stating that he mostly wanted her to act with her eyes without using her mouth and emotions a lot.
Her vision of the character differed from Miller’s sometimes as she advocated adding a bit of rage to Furiosa’s stoicism. She revealed that there was a particular scream that she had to pitch for three months to get added to the film.
But she also stayed very flexible with portraying how Miller wanted her to execute his vision. She added:
“I wanted to make sure that I was never insolent in any way, that it was always a conversation. At the end of the day, this is his vision. I can present everything that I have, but his word goes.”
However, the actress confirmed that even though it was an unforgettable experience she’d never regret, she needed a two-year break after going through grueling circumstances on set.
